Michael Connelly Clarifies Harry Bosch’s Replacement in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5

Finch takes Bosch’s place

Connelly discussed the change during a Northwest Passages conversation shared by The Spokesman-Review. He said Haller learns early in the season that he has a detective half-sister, continuing the reveal at the end of season 4.

In Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in the franchise, Bosch is part of the story. The Netflix adaptation instead uses Finch, an original character created for the series. Connelly said the change worked well.

Rights shape the adaptation

Haller and Bosch are half-brothers in Connelly’s novels, but their screen adaptations are on different platforms. Haller’s series is on Netflix, while Amazon has the Bosch franchise on Prime Video.

The fifth season will follow Haller as he handles the case of a woman who was wrongfully convicted, according to Finch. He will also be getting to know the half-sister he did not know he had.

A possible Finch spin-off

Netflix is exploring a spin-off starring Smulders as Finch, according to a Deadline report dated August 12. The report said executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman were writing a script after Netflix fast-tracked the project.

Season 5 is set for 2027. A potential spin-off could continue Garcia-Rulfo’s story as Haller after the legal thriller ends, but its plans remain uncertain. Prime Video’s Bosch franchise has continued with Welliver returning as the private investigator in Ballard, whose second season is also confirmed.

Key points
