November 2026 Brings Everything Coming to HBO Max: The Gilded Age and Holiday Specials

The Gilded Age Returns

Julian Fellowes’ historical drama The Gilded Age is set to return for a fourth season. Set in 1800s New York City, the series follows Marian Brook amid conflicts between wealthy families and the city’s high society.

The new season takes place in 1885 and 1886, six months after the previous season’s finale. Bertha Russell faces a cost for her rise in society, while Agnes van Rhijn seeks to recover her social standing. Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson and Morgan Spector return, with Dennis Haysbert joining the cast.

Season 4 of The Gilded Age Podcast will arrive alongside the show. Hosted by Alicia Malone and Tom Meyers, it examines each episode in the context of the era’s history.

City of God Continues

The Brazilian crime drama City of God: The Fight Rages On is returning for a second season. Based on Paulo Lins’ semi-autobiographical novel, the series follows the 2002 film City of God and is set two decades after its events.

Photojournalist Wilson “Rocket” Rodrigues documents conflicts involving drug dealers, police, militiamen and politicians in Rio de Janeiro’s titular area, and the effects on its residents. Kátia Lund and Fernando Meirelles directed the series, which stars Alexandre Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Edson Oliveira, Marcos Palmeira and Andréia Horta.

The series premiered in 2024 and received praise for its faithfulness to the novel and film. Critics also said it fell short of the earlier film’s visual style and visceral storytelling.

Films And Holiday Viewing

The month’s film premieres include an A24 coming-of-age drama about Anthony Bourdain’s early career as a chef. A documentary will explore the friendship between Colin Farrell and Emma Fogarty and their shared experience of Fogarty’s lifelong medical condition.

The film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree will make its streaming debut. HBO Max will also add a range of holiday-themed films and specials for viewers beginning their seasonal watchlists.
