Event Horizon’s Original Director Officially Reveals a 2-Part Spiritual Successor Franchise

A return to cosmic horror
Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 film Event Horizon sent Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill aboard a spacecraft returned from a place no rescue crew should investigate. Its story turned a spaceship into a kind of haunted house, where escape was impossible.
Anderson later spent much of his career building the Resident Evil movie franchise. His new projects offer another chance to work in the cosmic horror territory associated with Event Horizon, nearly three decades after that film’s release.
Two novels, separate stories
Anderson is attached to direct film adaptations of Nether Station and Nether Vortex, science-fiction horror novels by Kevin J. Anderson. Deadline first reported the projects, which will have screenplays by Jonathan Wakeham.
The films are separate stories, with a new protagonist confronting discoveries humanity might have been better off leaving alone. Kevin J. Anderson has said Event Horizon influenced Nether Station, connecting the books to the earlier film’s bleak approach to space exploration.
Anderson among the producers
Paul W.S. Anderson will also produce the adaptations alongside longtime collaborator Jeremy Bolt, John Harlacher and Tony Eldridge. The projects bring together the director of Event Horizon and novels shaped in part by that film’s influence.
The announced adaptations center on two books rather than a continuation of Event Horizon’s story. Their shared connection is the director and the cosmic horror that helped inspire Nether Station.
