Cowboys Trade Rumors: Offer Updates on Chances of Josh Sweat and George Pickens Deals

Pickens Trade Looks Unlikely
The Cowboys had been viewed as likely buyers for months, but their 3-5 record has prompted teams to wonder whether George Pickens could be available. He is not under contract beyond this year, making a trade a subject of speculation. ESPN’s Dan Graziano said he does not expect Dallas to move the veteran receiver before the deadline. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reported that the Cowboys are not trading Pickens, saying on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, “As of right now there’s nothing there.”
Limited Picks Could Restrain Dallas
Graziano said Dallas might make no additions at the deadline. The Cowboys have 10 draft picks over the next two years, including four in 2027, and already made a major move for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. earlier this season. That limited draft capital could make another significant deal difficult as the team weighs whether a trade can improve its prospects.
Sweat Deal Has Added Costs
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Dallas could be looking for an edge rusher and has been linked to Arizona Cardinals defender Josh Sweat. The Cowboys have not made a move for him so far.
Sweat’s contract could complicate negotiations. Fowler reported that teams believe Sweat would prefer a new deal in a trade, or at least an added benefit such as a raise on his $18.1 million salary this year or next. He is in the second year of a four-year, $76 million contract.
Dallas could need to spend both draft capital and more money to land Sweat. Competition for him could push the price higher, while the Cowboys’ record may also lead the team to question whether a deal is worthwhile.
