No. 20 Debut Marks a Sweet Spot for Ashe, Who Finds Her Girl of Dreams and a Really Solid Version of Myself

A career high for Ashe

The 33-year-old singer-songwriter is having a career high with The Girl of Your Dreams. The album debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200, marking her strongest opening there.

“Stop The Wedding!” has also continued its climb, reaching No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ashe hoped the single’s momentum would lead listeners to explore the full album, and its debut suggests that happened.

A song within an album

Ashe sees “Stop The Wedding!” as part of a larger work rather than a standalone release. She described it as “No. 1 of 11 songs” and said she was excited for listeners to hear it in context.

The single’s reception became clear to her while she was touring with Benson Boone. It was released during the tour, and Ashe noticed a strong response when she performed it in Los Angeles a few days later. She said many audience members who had not known her before were singing along.

More ease with sharing music

Ashe, whose full name is Ashlyn Rae Willson, said she used to feel protective of her work. Her outlook has shifted as she has grown older and released the new album, as well as spent 2025 working as The Favors with collaborator Finneas.

She said she is now comfortable with listeners interpreting or misunderstanding the art. Ashe added that she welcomes those who connect with the music, while accepting that it will not be for everyone.

Earlier breakthrough and home

The current success is not Ashe’s first viral moment. Her 2019 song “Moral of the Story,” featured in Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You, was a breakout for the singer.

Ashe spoke from her Nashville home, which she described as more of a cottage. She said its decor looked as though a grandmother had chosen it, but credited herself with the style.
