New World of Warcraft: Forever Post-Launch Plans Officially Confirmed: Updates Every 17 Weeks

A slower update schedule
In an interview with IGN, principal game designer Kris Zierhut outlined the planned pace for future content: about once every four months, or 17 weeks. He also described it as roughly three releases a year.
Zierhut said the team had experimented with different timings. Season of Discovery used a schedule closer to eight or 10 weeks, which he said felt much too fast for a game intended to last.
The release timing is meant to give players room to explore, while continuing to provide new content for those who finish more quickly. Blizzard has not specified what the first major updates will cover.
Lessons from smaller stories
Zierhut said the team expects to fit updates to the time available. He pointed to smaller, more localized stories as one way to do that, rather than building each update around a large story that takes six months to tell. The Classic format also gives the team more time to plan what follows launch, since reaching level 60 and completing available content takes longer than in Retail, according to the report.
A long-term Classic experience
World of Warcraft: Forever was announced at Blizzcon 2026. The game is intended to move beyond seasonal experiences and continue over the long term. Its planned debut is November 4. The beta was described as exceptional, while the full release will need to meet high expectations from players who have called for a lasting version of Classic+.
