Squarespace plans 19 percent cut as it reorganizes operations, laying off about 300 employees

Cuts affect about 300 workers

Squarespace is reducing its workforce by 19 percent, affecting roughly 300 people out of 1,800 employees. The company builds websites and says the cuts are part of an effort to simplify its operations.

Spokesperson Jeff Seedman said the changes are meant to narrow priorities and help Squarespace move more quickly as it prepares for its next growth phase. He also expressed appreciation for departing employees and said the company would support them during the transition.

Pay and health coverage offered

Employees affected by the layoffs will receive 16 weeks of base pay. Their healthcare benefits will continue through May 2027, Seedman said. The announcement did not provide further details about which roles or teams would be affected.

Cuts follow AI and acquisition moves

The workforce reduction follows Squarespace’s expansion into artificial intelligence. In 2024, the company unveiled Blueprint AI, a tool that can create websites and produce copy, blog posts and product descriptions.

Permira, a private equity firm, completed its acquisition of Squarespace around the same period. The layoffs come a little more than two years after those developments.
