Twist in Michigan Senate Race as Fatal Florida Crash Leads Morning Rundown

Young men and Michigan’s Senate race

Young men helped re-elect Donald Trump in 2024, but their current dissatisfaction could become important in close midterm races. A recent NBC News Decision Desk poll found that 28% of men ages 18 to 29 approve of the president.

Republicans and Democrats who spoke with NBC News pointed to housing costs and other affordability concerns, the Iran war, and the administration’s handling of the Epstein files as major reasons for dissatisfaction. Senate candidates Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed are both seeking support from this group.

A federal judge also dismissed the Trump administration’s effort to interfere in the Alaska Senate race. Early voting figures in Texas showed a sharp rise in Hispanic turnout, according to a subscriber report.

Nine killed in Florida jet crash

All nine people aboard a Learjet 60 died in a crash in Florida, officials said. The aircraft had left Texas for the Bahamas and went down near Cresthaven, a residential neighborhood in Palm Beach County, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Air traffic control audio captured a woman reporting that the plane was descending at 10,000 feet per minute before shouting that it was going to crash. Officials described the crash as “cataclysmic.”
