Mistborn Movie Casting: Brandon Sanderson Addresses Plans for Kelsier, Vin and Elend

Adaptation gains momentum

After years of false starts, work on a Mistborn adaptation began to advance in January 2026, when Apple TV acquired rights to Brandon Sanderson’s entire Cosmere universe. Sanderson is set to write the Mistborn film. He submitted the script’s first draft in July and received notes for a second draft in October, marking progress on the project.

Sanderson outlines casting approach

Sanderson shared a brief casting update during a Halloween episode on his YouTube channel, where he and his wife, Emily, answered fan mail. He did not specify whether Apple TV is considering or negotiating with any actors.

He said Kelsier would likely be the film’s only major-name casting choice. For Vin and Elend, the production will seek talented new actors.

Story centers on rebellion
