A small percentage of iPhone Duo units returned with display issue, John Ternus addresses supply constraints for 9to5mac

Duo supply remains constrained

In an interview with Reuters, Apple CEO John Ternus discussed supply constraints for the iPhone Duo. He said the product remains constrained and that Apple is working to get units to customers as quickly as possible.

Ternus said Apple could not predict when supply and demand would balance. Apple Store shipping estimates remain at late January, where they have stayed since pre-orders sold out on October 16.

Quarterly results exclude Duo sales

Apple reported record fourth-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street expectations overall. The results covered July through September, before the iPhone Duo went on sale in October, so they include no sales of the foldable. Wall Street is watching Duo sales closely, particularly for forecasts of revenue in the current quarter.

Display returns affect few units

The report described the issue as real but limited to a very small number of devices. Ternus offered no further detail about the affected screens.

Key points

  • Ternus said Apple cannot predict when iPhone Duo supply will meet demand.
  • The Duo launched in October, after the July-September earnings period.
  • Apple Store delivery estimates remain at late January, following the October 16 preorder sellout.
