Chevy’s Rumored Corvette SUV: Why Those Developing Plans Were Reportedly Scrapped

A broader Corvette lineup fades

Chevrolet was rumored to be considering several new Corvette-badged vehicles, including an SUV, an electric model and perhaps a four-door fastback. A report by GM Authority, citing company sources, says the broader plans have been shelved.

The SUV, described as a potential rival to the Porsche Cayenne, appears to be the most significant loss. Electric power had also been discussed, but the report says GM’s upcoming EV platforms are not expected to be used in Corvette-badged models. A four-door sedan is also now considered unlikely.

Why the plans may have changed

A wider lineup could have generated substantial sales and profits for GM, similar to the role Porsche’s SUVs play in supporting its sports-car development. The reasons for the reported decision remain uncertain.

The story raises softer EV demand and possible resistance from Corvette loyalists as potential factors, but neither is confirmed. Since GM never officially announced the plans, Chevrolet representatives told Car and Driver they had nothing to add to the speculation.

Corvette’s current and future models

The C8 lineup already spans the Stingray and Grand Sport through the Z06 and ZR1. Chevrolet also offers two hybrid powertrains in the current Corvette generation. The C9 is expected to replace the C8, and the article says there are already murmurs about the upcoming generation. Chevrolet has also previewed future Corvette models with the California Corvette concept car.
