Amazon Officially Finds Its Jack Ryan Replacement With Major New Adaptation

A new action-thriller project
Prime Video’s Jack Ryan ran for four seasons from 2018 to 2023, with John Krasinski playing the title character. The series earned an 80% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and was followed by the 2026 film Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War.
The film has not matched the television series’ performance, and further movies with Krasinski appear unlikely. MGM Studios is developing The Courier as a television adaptation, offering Amazon a possible new action-thriller franchise.
Daisy’s dangerous assignment
Melinda Leigh’s novel is scheduled for publication in March 2027, so details of its full story remain limited. Its central character, Daisy, is a diplomatic courier who survives a plane explosion intended to kill her and conceal a stolen package.
Framed for the crime, Daisy sets out across Europe to discover the truth and clear her name. The premise echoes Jack Ryan’s shift from government work into dangerous events with much larger stakes.
Martin Gero leads the series
Martin Gero is attached to The Courier as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer. He is best known as showrunner of NBC’s Blindspot, which ran for five seasons.
His other credits include Connection, The L.A. Complex, Stargate Atlantis and NBC’s Quantum Leap, as well as The Lovebirds, Bored to Death and Keep Breathing. The article notes that his projects have had mixed results, while his extensive experience could serve the new series.
Casting remains unknown
No actor has been announced for Daisy, and further characters and story elements have not been confirmed. The adaptation’s prospects therefore remain difficult to assess before more details emerge.
The Courier is positioned as a possible successor to Jack Ryan, but its novel has yet to be published. The television project’s central premise and Gero’s involvement are the main details currently available.
