Apple Watch owners see display always showing wrong time after clock change—here’s the fix

A recurring time-change bug

Daylight saving changes have caused problems for Apple Watches several times over the years. The issue was first reported on the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018, and a similar problem surfaced in 2021.

This year, some owners again found the always-on display showing the previous time while the watch’s primary time had updated automatically. Reports appeared on Reddit and X, with some users posting video.

Europe saw it first

In the fall, clocks move back by an hour. European countries usually make the change a week or two before the United States; this year, the gap was one week, so reports began in Europe. One user described the display as showing the old time while the watch was in rest mode, then showing the correct time when active.

Two ways to resolve it

Apple lists changing the watch face as one fix: switch to another face, then return to the preferred one. The display should then show the correct time. Users can also leave the watch as it is. Apple says the issue will resolve automatically at midnight that night.

Key points

  • Some always-on displays show the old time after the main watch time updates.
  • The issue has returned after similar daylight saving problems in 2018 and 2021.
  • Reports appeared in Europe a week before the US clock change.
  • Switching watch faces or waiting until midnight can resolve the display issue.
