Wolverine Setup Is Already Taking Shape in the MCU Ahead of the Mutant Saga

Mutants Are Already Appearing

Mutants have been part of the MCU’s 616 timeline since Ms. Marvel revealed Kamala Khan is one. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law also featured several mutant characters, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day brought in Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey.

VisionQuest offered another hint through the mercenary Paladin, who has a history of targeting superhumans and has received psychic training. That detail suggests Jean was not the MCU’s first Earthbound telepath, and points to mutants becoming a familiar presence.

Adamantium Is Moving Around

At the end of Eternals, the Eternals transformed a newborn Celestial into an unknown substance later identified as adamantium. Captain America: Brave New World showed the metal as highly valuable, with an early refined sample stolen and then recovered by Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres.

More adamantium has since appeared on the black market. Paladin obtained bullets from the Ten Rings, and other bounty hunters used adamantium ammunition in Madripoor. That spread could make it easier to imagine Wolverine receiving an adamantium skeleton, though the story has not shown that happening.

A Comic-Book Connection

Daredevil Season 3 introduced Dr. Oyama during surgery on Bullseye, whose back had been broken. In the comics, Dr. Oyama discovered how to bond adamantium to a human skeleton, a process associated with the Weapon X Project.
