Deadspin: Thunder’s Chet Holmgren faces 8 to 10 weeks out with knee injury

Holmgren’s recovery timeline

Holmgren had missed Oklahoma City’s previous two games because of soreness in his right knee. The team announced Friday that a small patellar tendon tear will keep him out for eight to 10 weeks.

The Thunder said Holmgren underwent a successful biological treatment for the injury. He is 24 and was an All-NBA player last season, after helping Oklahoma City win the NBA title the season before.

In three games this season, Holmgren averaged 12 points, 9.3 rebounds and three blocks. Across 186 career games, all with Oklahoma City, he has averaged 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks.

Other Thunder injuries

Forward Jalen Williams underwent surgery Wednesday for a broken left fibula and to reconstruct ligaments in a dislocated, fractured ankle. He is also due for reassessment before the regular season concludes.

Wallace’s season numbers

Wallace, 22, has appeared in three games this season, averaging 6.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals. His career averages over four seasons with Oklahoma City are 7.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals.

The injuries leave the Thunder without several players as Holmgren begins his recovery. Wallace is the only one of the three whose next evaluation date was specified as before the regular season ends.
