In Star Trek: Voyager’s Equinox Outing, Captain Ransom Officially Replaces Janeway as Playable Commander

Voyager’s expanding universe

Star Trek: Voyager aired from 1995 to 2001 as the franchise’s fifth television series. It became known for introducing Captain Kathryn Janeway as Star Trek’s first female commanding officer, and its universe has continued through games and novels.

In Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, Janeway now shares the spotlight with another captain. The game, a rogue-lite survival strategy title based on the series, first launched in February.

Ransom takes the helm

The Equinox DLC, released on 1 October, adds another playable Starfleet ship and commander. Players can command the USS Equinox, with First Officer Maxwell Burke and Crewman Noah Lessing among its crew, while Captain Rudolph Ransom joins the roster.

Ransom appeared in Voyager’s two-part “Equinox” story, where he and his crew faced difficult choices while trying to survive in the Delta Quadrant. The game recreates that perilous journey, with the smaller Equinox harder to maintain and bring home than Voyager.

A free mode joins the DLC

The Q-Trials, a free roguelite mode, launched alongside the Equinox DLC. It features random events, challenging routes and the option to mix and match crew members as players travel across the Delta Quadrant.

A crew editor adds replay options, and John de Lancie returns as Q to explain the mode. The Q-Trials are available to owners of the base game.

Platforms and access

The Equinox DLC requires a separate purchase unless players already own the Expansion Pass, which includes it automatically. The DLC is available on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Janeway remains part of the game’s universe, but this new content puts Ransom and the Equinox’s struggle at the center of its added missions.
