Bloodborne Replacement Officially Gets Major Update as Elden Ring Film Moves Ahead

A new Bloodborne adaptation

Seán McLoughlin, the YouTube creator known as Jacksepticeye, was announced as producer of an R-rated animated film based on Bloodborne at CinemaCon. The gothic, Lovecraftian game is set in Yharnam.

The announcement surprised fans because Sony had done little with the game since its 2015 PlayStation 4 release. At the time, no writer or director had been formally attached.

Story plans take shape

Speaking to IGN, McLoughlin said the film had moved further along since its announcement. He said work had focused largely on mapping out the story, and that a writer and director were now in place.

McLoughlin said he hoped announcements about the people involved and the story would come soon. He did not name the writer or director or give a release date.

Elden Ring heads to film

Bloodborne is not the only FromSoftware world moving into another medium. Alex Garland is leading a film adaptation of Elden Ring, scheduled for release in 2028. The production is expected to be A24’s most expensive to date, with a budget of more than $200 million. Elden Ring, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, won Game of the Year and became FromSoftware’s best-selling game.
