A 4.2 GPA and soccer MVP: HGTV star defends buying 150k BMW for his 16-year-old daughter, who deserved it

Why Taylor received the BMW
On the “Money Rehab” podcast, Tarek El Moussa described Taylor as a hardworking student and athlete. He said she earned a 4.2 GPA and was MVP of her freshman soccer team.
El Moussa said Taylor had not asked for the BMW and would have been content with a used Honda. He said the SUV’s sturdy construction made him feel she was in a safe car.
A gift from both households
El Moussa and his ex-wife, Christina Haack, joined his current wife, Heather El Moussa, in giving Taylor the silver BMW X5. In an Instagram video posted in August, Taylor appeared shocked and wiped away tears as she reacted to the surprise.
El Moussa wrote that the three adults had managed to arrange the gift and said they loved Taylor. He and Haack also share son Brayden, 11.
El Moussa on money and family
El Moussa rejected the idea that Taylor was spoiled, saying he had invested in stocks and real estate for her throughout her life. He said she grew up around expensive things, unlike him, and that their different experiences shaped how they viewed them.
Their family and television work
El Moussa and Haack were married for seven years before splitting in 2016. They continued hosting HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” until it ended in 2022 after 10 seasons.
In July, Heather responded to a social media user who asked how she felt about not worrying about money. She said she and Tarek had not come from money and had worked hard to reach their current position.
