DoorDash received several hundred AI-agent orders, TechCrunch reports

A small share of orders

DoorDash CEO Tony Xu told analysts that the company had seen several hundred orders in total from third-party agents, including Muse, Instinct and Fo. He described agent-based ordering as a fast-changing area and said the company should be realistic about its current scale.

DoorDash reported an average of 3 million deliveries daily in its 2025 report. Xu said users are still predominantly placing orders through DoorDash’s app.

DoorDash explores agent tools

Xu said the company wants to learn more about ways customers might use agents and build a healthy relationship with third-party developers. He also said advertising within agents could become an opportunity in the future.

DoorDash has introduced its own ordering tools: a text-to-order agent in September, a CLI agent in July, and Ask DoorDash in June. The chatbot lets users place orders using prompts and photos. The company also released an MCP for ordering through other chatbots for corporate orders.

Companies take different approaches

The broader market for agent-based ordering is still developing, as websites decide whether to let agents access their content. Amazon has blocked personal agents, while Walmart has welcomed them as a way to attract business from competitors.

DoorDash’s comments suggest that, for now, AI agents account for only a small number of its orders. The company is exploring the technology while most customers continue to use its app.
