Zelda’s 40th Anniversary Brings Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC, Officially Announced by Nintendo

Anniversary designs arrive

The new designs bring Zelda-inspired details to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players can access them by flying from the airport to Nintendo’s official island. Nina, a resident of Ninten Island, created the designs. They include a dark green T-shirt featuring the Triforce and an umbrella decorated with Koroks.

Amiibo unlock more items

Players who have scanned amiibo from The Legend of Zelda series in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can order additional crossover items. The Nook Shopping catalog includes themed furniture and clothing.

Examples include the Triforce and the Zonaiu Inscription Gate. Using the Zelda amiibo can also bring Churi or Miner to visit a player’s island.

Not a major expansion

The announcement comes as The Legend of Zelda celebrates 40 years, while interest is also building around the upcoming Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released in March 2020, has received little support over the past six years.

The crossover offers Zelda fans a reason to revisit their islands, but it does not amount to the large DLC or expansion some players have hoped for. Nintendo has not shared details of future content for the game or a possible new installment.
