Mooncat's Darkly Perfect Beauty Collab Launches for 2006's Definitive Supernatural Thriller, 20 Years Later

An anniversary-inspired collaboration

Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, has become a popular entry point for anime viewers and a psychological thriller classic. The series has also influenced pop culture, cyberculture and fashion, the article says, despite having no revival or remaster in the past two decades.

For its 20th anniversary, the anime partnered with Mooncat on a collection of nine special-effect lacquers. The products launched October 30, 2026, and Mooncat’s website offers shipping in the United States and internationally.

Shades and special finishes

The collection includes shimmer, glitter, matte, thermal and magnetic cat-eye finishes. Thermal polishes change color with temperature, while magnetic formulas reveal sparkle when exposed to a magnet. Named shades include Sugarfuel Brain Calories, a shimmery blue with holographic and star-shaped glitter; God of the New World, which shifts from burgundy to charcoal black when warm; Rem’s Requiem, a pink-lavender magnetic polish; and Shinigami Realm, which turns from dark gray to silver when warm. Magnetic and thermal lacquers cost $18 each, while the other listed shades cost $17.

Collector box and pricing

Mooncat sells the lacquers individually and as a limited-edition collector’s box. The notebook-style package is modeled after the Death Note and includes an exclusive sticker sheet and a magnetic wand for the magnetic polishes.

The box costs $139 and is described as having a $158 value. Custom bottles with matte black caps give the collection packaging distinct from Mooncat’s other products.
