Islanders’ music city woes end in shootout as ny beats predators for first Nashville win since 2017

Islanders Build Early Lead

Anthony Duclair opened the scoring for New York, finishing a play assisted by Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Tony DeAngelo. It was Duclair’s third goal of the season. Brayden Schenn answered for Nashville, scoring his fourth of the season with help from Ondrej Palat. The goal was the 300th of Schenn’s career. Both teams had three power-play chances in a penalty-filled first period, and New York kept the Predators’ power play from scoring.

Bo Horvat extended the Islanders’ advantage in the second period, putting away a pass sequence from Simon Holmstrom and Matthew Schaefer. His goal was his sixth of the season.

Nashville Fights Back

A New York penalty gave Filip Forsberg a chance to score on the power play. Jonathan Marchessault and Steven Stamkos assisted on Forsberg’s third goal of the season.

The Predators cut the deficit to 3-2 when Alexander Kerfoot scored his second goal of the year after an Islanders turnover in their own zone. Nashville later tied the game as Ryan O’Reilly gathered a loose puck that slipped behind Semyon Varlamov and scored his seventh of the season.

Nashville pressed hard late in the third period, but New York held on through the pressure. The teams entered overtime tied.

Shootout Decides The Game

New York drew a penalty in overtime and had roughly four minutes with a man advantage, but could not convert before the extra period ended. Kyle Palmieri scored first for the Islanders in the shootout. Varlamov stopped two attempts, and Horvat scored to secure the win.

The result was New York’s first victory in Nashville since 2017. The Islanders next visit the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
