Viral video shows police being called to youth soccer game; star 3-year-old draws outrage

Dispute at the field

Police body camera footage shows Hayes describing Nevada as advanced for his age and scoring many goals, while also saying the child pushed other players. Hayes told officers he had instructed children not to push during play.

Hayes said he had previously changed the lineup, including removing Nevada, and that the parents objected to his instructions to referees. He said they caused a scene by arguing with other parents and wanted the family to leave, offering a refund.

Mother disputes account

Nevada’s mother said the coach told her son he could remain in his latest game if he passed the ball. She said police became involved about halfway through the match.

In the body camera video, she says the family stands on the opposite side of the field from other parents to avoid disruption. She also says she saw parents gather and talk about Nevada during the game, and tells police the family was being removed because he was good at soccer.

Public response and league statement

The video has prompted outrage, though reaction has not been unanimous. One coach criticized the parents, writing, “These parents should be ashamed of themselves.” The league said the respectful treatment and well-being of every child and family matter deeply to it. It said it was working to understand what happened and would not speculate or share unverified information.
