Church officials say sixty christians killed in attacks across ethiopia’s oromia region

Two attacks in Arsi Zone

Church officials reported that 14 people died on October 20 in Gora Silingo, in Angada Kebele, Merti district. They said a further 46 were killed on October 24 in Tereta, Chole and Birbo, villages in Shirka district.

Both districts are in the Arsi Zone of central Oromia. The officials also reported more than 20 injuries and 20 homes burned.

Calls for protection and justice

The church appealed to government institutions to condemn the violence publicly and improve safeguards for civilians. It also urged authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

Responsibility remains contested

The killings took place amid prolonged insecurity in Oromia, Ethiopia’s largest regional state, which is home to about 40 million people. Government forces have been fighting armed groups in the region for years.

Church plans government discussions

The church’s holy synod said it would seek talks with senior government officials about the security crisis. Its appeal comes as church officials press for stronger protection and accountability after the attacks.
