Matic’s favorite robot vacuum gets quieter, but the expensive Serene costs $1,695

Quieter cleaning at full power
Matic says the Serene produces 52 decibels at its highest suction level, about as loud as a running refrigerator. The original Matic operates at 55 decibels, while many robot vacuums reduce noise by lowering suction.
Cofounder and president Mehul Nariyawala said the Serene is aimed at people who are especially sensitive to noise. He described it as otherwise the same Matic, with the change coming from a new hardware stack.
Price and owner upgrades
The Serene costs $1,695 and is available now. The original Matic, currently priced at $1,495, will remain on sale. Existing owners can request a hardware upgrade in early 2027. They will pay the difference between their original purchase price and the Serene’s price, so an owner who paid $1,095 could owe $600.
Noise as a design problem
Matic takes a different form and navigation approach from many lidar-based disc robots. Nariyawala said the company designed its vacuum to address several common problems, including noise, getting stuck, and becoming trapped under a couch.
The article’s reviewer said the original Matic can be used while working from home, but sometimes has to be stopped during phone calls. The reviewer expects the Serene’s three-decibel reduction could make that interruption less necessary, but has not yet tested the new model.
