Dutton Ranch’s Official Yellowstone Replacement Has Only Begun: Taylor Sheridan’s Next Era
Season two moves ahead
Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, said Dutton Ranch season 2 filming is due to start in early 2027. That schedule could allow the new season to premiere on Paramount+ in late 2027.
The series debuted in May, moving Beth, her husband Rip Wheeler and their adopted son Carter to the fictional Texas town of Rio Paloma. Paramount+ said it was the service’s biggest original series launch, averaging 13.4 million viewers worldwide.
A different Yellowstone successor
Yellowstone ended its five-season run in December 2024. Its surviving Dutton children then became the focus of separate spinoffs, including Kayce Dutton’s CBS series Marshals, which began in early 2026 and quickly became one of network television’s biggest shows.
Marshals uses a network procedural format, with Kayce and his team solving crimes. Dutton Ranch instead centers on character drama and a more immersive pace, giving it a different relationship to Yellowstone despite its Texas setting.
A new take on the ranch
The article describes Dutton Ranch as a fresh version of Yellowstone’s story about a ranching family trying to keep its land. Beth and Rip join Beulah Jackson and her family at 10-Petals Ranch, but learn they are connected to her drug-smuggling operation.
Taylor Sheridan does not write Dutton Ranch. The article credits producer and director Christina Alexandra Voros, executive producer Kelly Reilly and the show’s female writers with shaping a female-focused take on the franchise’s formula.
Cliffhangers await resolution
Season 1 ended with Carter kidnapped by Mariano Reyes, a Mexican drug kingpin and Beulah’s longtime silent partner. The abduction brings out the vengeful side Beth and Rip had tried to leave behind in Montana.
Another open question is who shot Rob-Will Jackson. His daughter Oreana did not see the shooter, and Joaquin Reyes is among the possible suspects. The article also says Oreana is pregnant, likely with Carter’s baby, and that Everett McKinney is expected to have a larger role after a small part in season 1.
