Deadspin: Canucks and Ducks aim to reverse recent trajectories Tuesday

Ducks end their losing streak
Anaheim started the season with four wins in its first five games but then struggled. The Ducks broke a five-game skid Saturday, beating the Flyers 5-4 to finish a four-game road trip.
Anaheim recovered after falling behind by two goals. Leo Carlsson scored the team’s first goal midway through the second period and later assisted on Beckett Sennecke’s winning goal, scored with 12:50 left.
Carlsson and Luneau contribute
Carlsson has 13 points, including 10 assists, to lead the Ducks. Anaheim matched a five-year, $90 million offer sheet for the forward in the offseason after Philadelphia made the offer. Defenseman Tristan Luneau scored and added two assists in his 11th game this season. Carlsson praised the 22-year-old’s potential, saying, “When he has confidence, he’s insane.”
Vancouver seeks a turnaround
The Canucks won two of their first three games but have since gone 0-9-1. They lost 4-2 to Minnesota on Sunday and have dropped three straight at home before beginning a two-game California trip.
Vancouver outshot Minnesota 10-5 in the first period but trailed 1-0, then managed only three shots in the second. Coach Manny Malhotra said the team had a strong start but did not sustain it; the Canucks were outshot 29-7 over the final 40 minutes.
Elias Pettersson assisted on Brock Boeser’s late goal against Minnesota and leads Vancouver with 13 points, nine of them assists. The Canucks have won 13 of 15 games against Anaheim over the previous four seasons, including seven of their last eight visits there since December 2021.
