Tulsa King Star Western Officially Removed From 2,000 Theaters After Box Office Drop

Theater count falls sharply

Angel and the Badman opened October 9 in 2,263 theaters. By its third weekend, it remained in just 104 locations, a net loss of 2,159 theaters. The film shed 993 theaters in its second weekend, then lost another 1,166 on October 23. The combined reductions cut its original theatrical footprint by 95.4% in two weeks.

A remake of a Western classic

Directed by Julio Quintana, the film remakes John Wayne’s 1947 Western of the same name. It follows a wounded outlaw who receives care from a rancher’s daughter and begins to imagine a different life.

As the law and his violent past threaten his new home, he faces a choice about the person he will become. Zachary Levi plays Quirt Evans, Tommy Lee Jones is Marshal McClintock, and McDonough plays Laredo.

Box office totals weaken

The movie opened with $2.1 million domestically, averaging approximately $935 per theater. In its second weekend, it earned $433,220, a decline of nearly 80%. According to The Numbers, Angel and the Badman had earned approximately $3.8 million domestically through October 21. With the film now showing in barely 100 theaters, its prospects for adding substantially to that total appear limited.
