‘Street Fighter’ Almost Officially Brought Back a Fan-Favorite Star After 32 Years

A nod to the 1994 film
Street Fighter has returned to theaters in a live-action adaptation that has grossed $57.3 million USD. The franchise’s first big-screen version arrived in 1994 and later gained cult-classic status despite its poor reception.
The new film references its predecessor through M. Bison, played by David Dastmalchian. In a fight with Chun-Li, portrayed by Callina Liang, he paraphrases a line delivered in the earlier film by Raul Julia.
Minogue nearly returned
Kylie Minogue, who played Cammy in the 1994 movie, was considered for a cameo in the new adaptation. The filmmakers had trouble reaching her, but Orville Peck, who plays Vega, knew her and offered to send a text. Peck recounted his offer in an interview with Queerty, saying, “Guys, I can text her.” Minogue was open to appearing, but her schedule did not allow it.
A fond memory of filming
Minogue told Peck that making the original Street Fighter was one of the most enjoyable experiences of her life. She did not appear in the new movie, so the adaptation has no cameo from the earlier cast.
Peck is also trying to arrange a meeting of the Cammies with Mel Jarnson, his co-star. The article does not say whether that meeting will take place.
