After Guilty Plea, Chris Brown Given Suspended Prison Sentence Over London Nightclub Attack

Sentence handed down in court
Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday for sentencing after pleading guilty in July to affray, a public order offense. The confrontation took place at a Mayfair nightclub in 2023.
Judge Tony Baumgartner imposed an eight-month prison term, suspended for 12 months. Brown and his co-defendant, vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, will remain in the community unless they commit another crime during that period.
Baumgartner said the sentences were the shortest custodial terms he considered proportionate to the offenses. He said the law required suspension for sentences of 12 months or less unless specified conditions applied.
Other charges were dropped
Brown and Akinlolu had initially been due to stand trial on assault and grievous bodily harm charges, but those charges were later dropped. Brown also faced an allegation involving possession of an offensive weapon, described in reports as a tequila bottle; that charge was dropped as well.
The judge said Brown was not entitled to special treatment. His charitable activities and his status as a father of four were taken into account, while his earlier convictions involving violence were described as historic but relevant.
Earlier conviction noted
Brown has previously spent time in prison in Los Angeles for a probation violation. That followed his guilty plea to felony assault of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. Akinlolu, who performs as Hoody Baby, was sentenced alongside Brown in the London case. The court suspended his prison sentence for 12 months as well.
