Street Fighter Movies Ranked: What the 8 Films Reveal, Including the 2026 Reboot
A franchise with wide appeal
Street Fighter grew from arcade success in the 1980s into a major fighting-game franchise on home consoles. Street Fighter 6 continues to draw thousands of players daily, while characters such as Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chun-Li and M. Bison are familiar beyond the genre.
The movies have varied in budget, scope and approach. Some aim to connect with dedicated fans, while others pursue broader appeal; the latest is scheduled to premiere in October 2026.
Live-action takes diverge
In Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Kristin Kreuk plays Chun-Li, who seeks revenge after Bison, played by Neal McDonough, kidnaps her father when she is a child. The film follows her effort to find Bison and bring down Shadaloo, but its references to the games are limited, and critics and general audiences responded poorly.
The 1994 live-action Street Fighter stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile. Bison, played by Raul Julia, holds hostages and demands $20 billion, with 72 hours to pay; the story leans toward political and military conflict rather than tournament fighting. Julia’s theatrical performance is a major draw, despite the film’s other problems.
Animated stories for fans
Street Fighter Alpha: Generations is a 45-minute animated movie centered on Akuma’s past, Ryu’s training and the Dark Hado. Its action is limited, but the fight scenes it does include are strong, and the soundtrack is praised. Viewers unfamiliar with the series’ lore may struggle to follow its characters and events.
Street Fighter Alpha features stylish fights, an appealing art style and appearances by less familiar characters such as Rose. Ryu wrestles with the Dark Hado and meets Shun, who says he is Ryu’s long-lost brother; Guile and Chun-Li also investigate a scientist identified as Professor Sa.
