Digimon Tamers Returned 25 Years Later: Why the Objective Best Series Keeps Getting Better

Two Blu-ray Editions

Discotek Media announced the English-language Blu-ray on June 1, 2026. Its four discs contain all 51 episodes in 1080p, preserve the original 1.33:1, 4:3 aspect ratio, and include English closed captions.

The Japanese-language set is scheduled to arrive through MediaOCD on November 24, 2026, and is available to preorder. It also includes four discs and all 51 episodes, with Japanese audio and English subtitles.

Different Languages And Prices

The English-dubbed edition runs for 1,070 minutes and is listed for $63.99. The Japanese-subtitled release runs for 1,220 minutes and is listed for $71.96 ahead of its November release.

Both collections are Region A Blu-rays, compatible with appropriate players in North America. The Japanese-language edition is the first home-video release of the original version with English subtitles.

A New Kind Of Digimon Story

Takato learns to become a Tamer alongside Jianliang, called Henry in the English dub, and Ruki, localized as Rika. Their partners Terriermon and Renamon join them, while a card-slash system lets the children strengthen their Digimon with trading cards.

An Adventure With Greater Stakes

As the series unfolds, Digimon appear in the human world and the children face government authorities and powerful forces linked to the Digital World. Grief, identity, responsibility, and sacrifice become increasingly important to the story.

The series’ willingness to take a darker direction helps set it apart from its predecessors. Twenty-five years after its debut, that experimentation remains a reason fans rank Tamers among Digimon’s finest installments.
