Coldcast, Major Disaster and Catwoman: 10 Most Questionable Justice League Members Ever

Powerful Allies, Troubled Past
The Justice League relies on trust as well as strength, because its members must cooperate when the world is at risk. Yet some recruits arrived with records or personal motives that challenged the team’s values.
Coldcast, whose real name is Nathan Craig Jones, can manipulate electromagnetic energy and related forces. He had been part of Manchester Black’s Elite, a group known for brutally punishing criminals and ignoring legal limits.
After Superman defeated the Elite in Libya, Coldcast turned away from its violent approach. He later joined the Justice League Elite, a covert unit led by Vera Black, but his earlier choices left teammates with reason to doubt his judgment.
A Second Chance, With Consequences
Paul Booker, known as Major Disaster, began as a criminal opponent of Green Lantern, the Flash and Superman. His methods included technology that set off natural catastrophes; later, he could manipulate probability and cause disasters himself.
Superman eventually offered Booker a chance to change, and he joined the replacement League Batman formed after the original team disappeared. He also served with the Justice League Elite, but alcoholism undermined his work.
Personal Motives Complicate Allegiance
Maxima, queen of Almerac, has psionic powers, superhuman strength and the ability to fly. She came to Earth seeking Superman as a mate, but his rejection led to repeated battles between them.
After they partly reconciled, Maxima joined the Justice League. Her wish to stay close to Superman clouded that allegiance; after he married Lois Lane, she approached him again and joined the Superman Revenge Squad.
Catwoman, or Selina Kyle, is a skilled burglar who has often clashed with Batman. Though their interests sometimes overlap, she tends to follow her own priorities rather than commit consistently to public service.
Recruitment Raises Further Questions
Catwoman’s first mission was to infiltrate the Secret Society, but the operation failed and she was captured. Harley Quinn’s later recruitment presented a different concern: her past as the Joker’s accomplice and her reckless behavior.
Harley began as an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist before entering the Joker’s criminal orbit. Following the events of Absolute Power, she joined the expanded Justice League Unlimited, prompting doubts about placing her alongside Superman, Batman and other heroes. The account begins describing former S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Killer Frost and her freezing abilities, but cuts off before explaining her League connection.
