Why Trump’s staff rushed June renovations to install four chandeliers in the White House West Wing

Urgent work before events
White House contracting documents in early June set a deadline for installing chandeliers. The work had to be completed over a weekend before June anniversary events. The paperwork described the work as urgent. It led to the installation of four chandeliers in the West Wing.

No-bid contract awarded
The contract went to Agile1Tech, a Virginia-based company, according to the Sun. The company also created a viewing and gaming room for a UFC fight. The White House said the job could not be put out to competitive bids because of the timing and the ceilings’ unique features.
Broader White House changes
The chandeliers are among Trump’s efforts to reshape the White House in a style featuring gold. The Oval Office has gold decorations and picture frames across nearly every wall, and gold lettering reading “The Oval Office” was added to its exterior.
Trump has also had the East Wing torn down to make way for a $330 million ballroom. Private donors paid most of the cost, and work on the facility continues; it dwarfs the rest of the White House.
