Tesla’s flying car is here: memes take off after Roadster demo
A stunt sparks online jokes
The demonstration featured a car accelerating toward a row of vehicles, lifting into the air, flipping over them and landing beyond the line. The performance drew an immediate reaction online, where users turned the flying kickflip into memes.
One post imagined a traffic stop interrupted by the airborne vehicle. Another user mocked up a potential road sign, while other posts pictured drivers using flight to get around morning congestion.
Imagining flight on roads
Some of the jokes focused on the limits of taking flying cars onto ordinary roads. Freeway overhead signs may leave room for tall vehicles, one observation noted, but could be less accommodating to cars in flight.
A meme also imagined a driver escaping a slow-moving vehicle in the left lane by taking off. Another joked about the consequences of an unexpected flight after a drink had been spilled by a sudden speed bump.
Practical questions remain
Alongside the jokes, one X user wondered how Roadsters that can soar might be insured. The article also noted uncertainty over whether kickflips by Roadsters would be permitted on public roads. The reaction included a reference to “Back to the Future,” fitting the spectacle of a car leaping over traffic.
