Singapore Cloaked in Fire-Related Haze: Here’s What the City Looks Like
Haze dims Singapore’s skyline
Singapore’s environmental agency said winds were bringing smoke from fires in Indonesia’s Kalimantan region toward the city. The haze has affected Singapore for weeks, with conditions worsening in recent days.
Air quality reaches unhealthy levels
On Friday, air quality in much of Singapore entered the “very unhealthy” range on the country’s Pollutant Standards Index, reaching its highest point this year. Authorities recommend avoiding prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity at that level.
Flights and sports affected
Poor visibility disrupted flights at Seletar Airport, prompting diversions and cancellations. Seletar and Singapore’s main international airport, Changi, remain operational. Organizers canceled the ISCA Run, scheduled for Saturday at Gardens by the Bay, affecting almost 3,000 registered participants. An ISCA spokesperson said organizers acted early because air conditions were unpredictable and they were concerned for runners’ safety, including children in the Family Run.
