Trump announces Russia will release millions of tons of diesel to help with skyrocketing costs

President Donald Trump said Russia plans to deliver three million tons of diesel within a short time, aiming to ease high fuel prices. The announcement followed a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin said Russia was prepared to send oil and petroleum products to U.S. and global markets. It added that the leaders discussed Ukraine, Iran and bilateral ties.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the move, calling any relaxation of sanctions on Russia a sign of weakness. The reported supply marks a shift from measures intended to limit Russia’s energy earnings after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Diesel costs have climbed amid the Iran war. AAA put the average U.S. price at $6.28 per gallon, compared with $5.94 a month earlier and $3.68 a year earlier.

The administration has also allowed red-dyed diesel, which avoids the federal tax on regular diesel, to be used on highways. Trump predicted prices would fall, but the article does not say when the Russian deliveries will begin beyond describing them as coming soon.
