South Africa lawyer 'Navi' Pillay wins Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to prosecute war crimes, genocide

South African human rights lawyer Navi Pillay has won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Committee announced Friday.

The committee praised Pillay as a legal pioneer, citing her courage and role in advancing international law, according to PBS.

Pillay is a judge on the International Court of Justice and previously served as the U.N. human rights commissioner. She has also been a judge at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
