Navi Pillay, South African Jurist, Is Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize

Navanethem “Navi” Pillay was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, according to CBS News. The Nobel Committee cited her work promoting peace and international law.
Pillay, 85, was born in South Africa and has held senior roles in international justice and human rights. She served as a judge at the International Criminal Court from 2003 to 2008, then became the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.
She also chaired a U.N. inquiry into the occupied Palestinian territory that said last year Israel’s actions in Gaza amounted to genocide. Israel rejected the inquiry’s findings and condemned Pillay receiving the prize, CBS reported.
