U.S. intercepts $3 million worth of fuel shipments to Cuba as energy blockade tightens

U.S. agencies intercepted 90 shipments of biodiesel headed for Cuba, with a reported value of nearly $3 million. The Department of Homeland Security said the fuel was intended for a sanctioned, state-owned company.

At Port Everglades in Florida, authorities seized 71 storage tanks holding about 500,000 gallons. Another 19 shipments, containing roughly 120,000 gallons, were stopped at the Port of Houston.

Homeland Security Investigations said the seizures followed intelligence indicating U.S.-exported fuel was being sent to Cuba in breach of recent restrictions. The agency cited suspected violations of federal export laws and regulations.

The action expands U.S. efforts to prevent fuel from reaching Cuba’s strained energy sector. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump threatened tariffs against countries that supply oil to the island, seeking to restrict its energy imports.

U.S. officials said enforcement would continue, while Cuban officials have condemned U.S. measures as economic warfare and aggression. The article does not report any charges or further steps in this case.
