India news: Top court hears petitions against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar

India's Supreme Court has taken up petitions questioning the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The challenges come amid controversy over large-scale changes to voter rolls and claims of one-sided decision-making.
The court has asked the Election Commission of India to respond to the allegations raised against Kumar. No ruling on the merits was reported yet.
Separately, several people were detained in New Delhi on Monday during a night-long demonstration outside a police station near Parliament Street. They were protesting alleged sexual harassment of women journalists by officers during an October 3 demonstration calling for Kumar's resignation.
Delhi Police said the complaints had been sent to its Crime Branch for what it described as a "fair and impartial enquiry."
