Sydney Sweeney’s Rated Thriller Is Officially Among the World’s Biggest Streaming Hits

A sequel is on the way
The Housemaid’s Secret, based on Freida McFadden’s sequel novel, is scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027. Sweeney will reprise her role as Millie Calloway. Paul Feig is directing, and Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the film. Michele Morrone is returning as Enzo, while Paul Anthony Kelly, Kirsten Dunst and Brittany Snow are among the new cast members.
The first film’s strong run
The Housemaid became a surprise hit last year, taking in $400 million in global box office revenue on a reported production budget of $35 million. It outperformed several major titles from late 2025.
The film has continued to attract viewers on HBO Max. At the time of writing, it had spent 20 days among the service’s most-watched U.S. movies and sat in second place behind The Invite, an Oscars contender from Olivia Wilde.
Cast changes for the follow-up
The Housemaid joined HBO Max on October 9 and has remained popular since its arrival. Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar also starred in the original film alongside Sweeney.
Neither Seyfried nor Sklenar is expected to return for the sequel, while Morrone is set to reprise his role. Lionsgate will be looking for the follow-up to build on the first film’s commercial success.
