MotoGP: Marc Marquez’s title hopes stay on hold after Qatar second place

Marquez must wait for title
Marc Marquez crossed the line second in the Qatar Grand Prix, behind Marco Bezzecchi. The result means he has not yet secured an eighth MotoGP championship, which would equal the record.
Marquez won his first MotoGP title in 2013. His latest opportunity to clinch another crown therefore remains unresolved after Qatar.
Bezzecchi leads the race
Bezzecchi converted pole position into victory, his sixth grand prix win this season. He rides for Aprilia and is a team-mate of Jorge Martin. Raul Fernandez finished third. The Spaniard races for Trackhouse Aprilia, completing the podium behind Bezzecchi and Marquez.
Martin returns from injury
Martin, the 2024 champion, came back to racing in Qatar and finished seventh. He had withdrawn from the previous race after fracturing his wrist. His return came alongside a strong result for Aprilia: Bezzecchi won, while Martin placed inside the top seven.
