Andy Weir’s Next Project Hail Mary Book Arrives December 1 in Deluxe Edition

A new edition for readers

The Deluxe Edition gives readers a new format for revisiting Ryland Grace’s mission to save humanity. Its release comes as the novel gains fresh attention following the film adaptation starring Ryan Gosling.

The book is not a sequel or a new adventure. Instead, it offers a special hardcover version of Weir’s existing novel, arriving in time for the holiday season.

Design features and price

According to the Penguin Random House listing, the edition has stenciled page edges, new cover art on a deluxe dust jacket, full-color illustrated endpapers and a custom-stamped case beneath the jacket. The 496-page hardcover has an official retail price of $40. Discounts are available at some retailers, and pre-orders are open through most major booksellers.

The story and its success

The novel follows Grace, who wakes aboard a spacecraft millions of miles from Earth without remembering his mission. As his memories return, he learns humanity’s survival depends on solving a difficult scientific mystery.

Project Hail Mary became a #1 New York Times bestseller, won Goodreads’ 2021 Choice Award for science fiction and received a Hugo Award nomination. Its 2026 film adaptation, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, brought the story to a wider audience.

Interest continues to grow

The film earned more than $680 million worldwide. ScreenRant reviewer Gregory Nussen rated it 9/10 and described it as “a remarkable achievement,” according to Nussen. The story is also set to reach audiences through the mixed reality and virtual reality experience Journey Among the Stars. The Deluxe Edition offers longtime readers and newer fans a way to return to Grace’s journey.
