Brennan and Naolin may be Fourth Wing’s most interesting couple, Threshing Day proves—forget Violet and Xaden

New perspectives on Threshing Day

Threshing Day moves away from the central plot to follow 13 characters during the dragon-selection ceremony. The accounts also reveal that riders may not fully understand the dragons’ world.

The release adds personal details that could support theories about relationships among the characters. Those revelations have renewed attention on Brennan and Naolin, whose past remains largely unknown.

Brennan and Naolin’s uncertain past

Brennan’s perspective confirms that he has had relationships with men, making earlier speculation about his sexuality explicit in the books. The revelation could open the way for a closer look at his possible connection with Naolin.

Naolin is thought to have died while trying to save Brennan, and is also believed to have helped conceal Brennan’s supposed death. Since Brennan survived, readers have questioned whether Naolin could also be alive, or might have become Venin. Neither possibility is confirmed.

A story beyond Violet and Xaden

The aftermath of Onyx Storm leaves the next book with the Venin threat and Xaden’s future to address. The article argues that exploring Brennan and Naolin’s possible romance could add another compelling thread rather than leaving the focus solely on Violet and Xaden.

If the next installment confirms they were more than friends at Basgiath, it could connect with existing theories about them. A possible parallel between their relationship and Violet and Xaden’s could also deepen Brennan’s role, though Naolin’s fate remains uncertain.

A Prime Video adaptation of Fourth Wing is in development, and the article suggests future books could provide more context for the series. For now, Brennan and Naolin’s story remains a possibility, not a confirmed romance.
