Deadspin World Series Notebook: Brewers Fans Take Over Tropicana Field in 10-1 Rout

Milwaukee takes over the stands
The crowd’s Wisconsin contingent was apparent before the game, including at Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill across from Tropicana Field. Brewers fans also took over the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Manager Pat Murphy said players recognize the support of fans who follow and travel with the team.
Chourio makes his mark
Milwaukee left fielder Jackson Chourio went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in the 10-1 win. The 22-year-old Venezuelan is batting .286 with two home runs and nine RBIs this postseason.
Brewers hitting coach Daniel Vogelbach called Chourio a “special player” and noted his age. Chourio has emerged as a major contributor during Milwaukee’s postseason run.
Gasser delivers six scoreless
Rays starter Freddy Peralta gave up five earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings, with four strikeouts. His ERA rose from 0.89 over his previous 10 starts to 2.95.
Brewers break open the game
William Contreras and Christian Yelich hit consecutive singles in the third inning to put Milwaukee ahead 2-0. The Brewers added three runs in the fifth, forcing Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash to remove Peralta after 87 pitches with two outs.
A replay review overturned a forceout call at second after Contreras grounded to third with two runners aboard. Brice Turang and Garrett Mitchell then hit run-scoring singles, followed by RBI doubles from Cooper Pratt and Sal Frelick against reliever Cam Booser, making the score 8-0.
