Three Alexander brothers sentenced to 30 years in prison after convictions on all 10 counts of sex trafficking

Sentences follow victim statements

U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni imposed the sentences in a New York City courtroom. Several women described the impact of the crimes before the judge announced the terms.

Bela Koval said her first visit to the Hamptons became a nightmare. Acree spoke about her 8-year-old daughter and said she would work to keep her child from living in a world with people like the brothers.

Jury found brothers guilty

In March, jurors convicted the brothers on all 10 counts. Those included conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and several charges of trafficking by force, fraud or coercion. The brothers had denied the charges and pleaded not guilty. At trial, their lawyers argued that the encounters were consensual and said inappropriate remarks did not amount to a crime.

Prosecution and defense sought different terms

The women and prosecutors urged the judge to give each brother the maximum sentence. Defense lawyers asked for 15 years, the minimum they sought. The brothers lived in Miami, while women said assaults took place in New York and other locations. The case concerned conduct spanning more than a decade.
