Nico Parker, known for The Last of Us and How to Train Your Dragon, and Sam Nivola, who appeared in The White Lotus, have been cast in the lead roles of Grandgear, according to Deadline. The actors were selected after an extensive search that included a chemistry test. Paul Giamatti, reportedly among the top choices for his role, is in negotiations to join the movie.
Yamazaki Takes On New Project
Takashi Yamazaki is directing Grandgear and wrote its screenplay. It is his first studio movie following Godzilla Minus Zero. Yamazaki also directed and wrote Godzilla Minus One, which earned a 99% critics’ score and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film grossed $116 million worldwide against a reported $15 million budget.
Sequel Release Dates Set
Yamazaki returned to direct and write Godzilla Minus Zero. The sequel received a 96% critics’ score after its first reactions. It is scheduled to reach Japanese theaters on November 3 and North American theaters on November 6.
Filming Expected In 2027
Grandgear’s plot details have not been disclosed, and filming is expected to begin in 2027. The movie is being produced by Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Glen Zipper.
