At 45, Natalie Portman breaks silence on welcoming magical baby with partner Tanguy Destable

A new outlook on family

Portman told Harper’s Bazaar that having another child has changed how she sees her older children, son Aleph, 15, and daughter Amalia, 9. She shares them with ex-husband Benjamin Millepied.

She said the experience reminded her that her children were once newborns and have since grown into people with distinct personalities, humor and ideas. Portman described the new baby as bringing a sense of wonder and joy to her life.

What she has shared

Portman has not revealed the newborn’s name, sex or birth date. She and Destable were seen with the baby in Paris in early September, when he carried the child in a carrier during a walk.

In April, Portman announced she was pregnant and called the coming arrival a privilege and a miracle. She said it was probably the last time she would expand her family, and described feeling calm and clearer about the people and energy she wanted around her.

Portman shared a glimpse of her pregnancy on Instagram in July, writing that she was counting the days until they met the baby. She previously welcomed Aleph in 2011 and Amalia in 2017.

Portman and Millepied split in 2023 after more than a decade of marriage and have co-parented their children. Portman was first photographed with Destable in 2025; he is a 46-year-old DJ known as Tepr.

Her view on love

In the interview, Portman also reflected on what matters to her at this point in life. She said love was most important and emphasized kindness, affection and the ability to laugh. Portman said she was not embarrassed to express that view, adding that she would not spend time on situations that lacked those qualities.
