Jordan Arrests 3 After Deadly Attack on Greek Orthodox Church

Arrests After Dawn Shootout
Jordan’s Public Security Directorate said the three men were taken into custody on Monday after a dawn exchange of gunfire in Karak governorate, south of Amman. The suspects were wounded, but no security personnel were reported hurt.
Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said the men were identified soon after the attack. In an interview with state television Al-Mamlaka, he said they resisted arrest before being subdued and detained with severe injuries.
Attack During Funeral
The assault took place Friday at a Greek Orthodox church in Hammoud, a village in Karak, during a funeral. Nine people were killed and more than two dozen others were wounded.
No Group Claims Responsibility
No one has claimed responsibility, and no armed group has been accused. The directorate did not name the suspects or indicate any possible ties to Islamist militant groups, Reuters reported. The directorate said terrorism had no place in Jordan and described the arrests as the suspects receiving their “just fate.” King Abdullah II called on authorities to respond firmly to those he said sought to weaken national unity.
